Santa Clara was settled in 1854 on the river that gave it its name, and its historic center along Santa Clara Drive is still the heart of town. The Jacob Hamblin Home, built in 1863 and restored by the State of Utah in the 1960s, stands at 3325 Santa Clara Drive. The Samuel R. Knight Santa Clara History Museum is in the basement of town hall, and the town was incorporated in 1915.
Fruit made the town: vineyards, orchards, gardens and farms spread through the valley, and fruit growing was the main occupation for more than fifty years. Today the city maintains four parks, 12.5 miles of trails, an arboretum and a historic cemetery, and the Bureau of Land Management’s 6,500-acre Santa Clara River Reserve, managed with Ivins, lies along the river with trails to prehistoric rock art.
